The pink sea star (Pisaster brevispinus) is a gentle giant of the Pacific, growing up to 26 inches! Unlike most sea stars, it prefers sandy seabeds over rocky shores. With powerful tube feet, it grips and cracks open clams. If attacked, it can regrow lost arms—though sea otters remain a constant threat.
